Thousands of Muslim believers across Russia on Sunday celebrated Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim holiday marking the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
Many Muslims celebrate Eid by joining communal dawn prayers at mosques, followed by a short sermon. The rest of the day is normally spent visiting relatives and neighbors and accepting gifts, food and sweets.
In Russia, Eid al-Fitr is also known as Uraza Bayram. Islam is the country’s second-largest religion after Christian Orthodoxy, with an estimated 14 million believers.
