In a surprise move, Marvel has just lifted the lid on its mysterious crime thriller series Echo, spinning out of the events of Hawkeye—but honestly, most of the surprises aren’t about the story of the show itself.

Today Marvel released a new trailer showing off what to expect from the series, as Alaqua Cox’s deaf anti-heroine, Maya Lopez, as she finds herself on the trail of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) and his Kingpin criminal empire.
The series will mark a number of first for Marvel—beyond being its first lead by a deaf protagonist. It will be the first Marvel Studio series to stream simultaneously on both Disney+ and Hulu, as well as the first Marvel Studio series to drop all five of its episodes at once.
It’s clear that given both the experimental release and the darker tone of the show Marvel is trying to do something different with Echo—and so far, there’s enough here intriguing that there could be promise.
Echo hits Disney+ and Hulu on January 10.
