The second Trump administration’s efforts to dramatically transform the federal government have included executive orders demanding the removal of references to diversity, equity, and inclusion from federal websites and offices and to fire staff and shut down DEI programs across federal agencies. These orders are also impacting state and local governments and nonprofit organizations.

In little moments as well as in its major initiatives, the administration will make itself felt in Berkeley. We’re turning to you to help us document the ways the East Bay community is changing in response to Trump. This can mean acts of preemptive self-censorship in local institutions, or changes explicitly required by law: the removal of old art, the softening of some public-facing bit of social justice language, the sidelining of once-cherished histories. It can also mean alterations in your own everyday behavior, new plans or habits. If something seems different because of the Trump administration, whether in the physical space of the city or in your own life, we want to know about it.
