Hana Financial Group will launch a life-cycle based project for disabled people to help them lead a healthy and economically independent life, the group said Tuesday.
This is the latest in the group’s corporate responsibility programs to strengthen social welfare for vulnerable groups.
Hana Chairman Ham Young-joo delivered rehabilitation and learning devices for children with disabilities at the Purme Foundation Nexon Children's Rehabilitation Hospital in Mapo District, Seoul, Monday.
“We would like to provide assistance for those struggling to overcome their challenges, a step toward enabling a greater number of members of society to realize their dreams. Hana will spare no effort in fostering an environment where both people with disabilities and those who are not can live together.”
Hana will shoulder the cost of buying rehabilitation devices, including walkers and posture correction chairs, for 270 children.
It will also provide braille devices for the visually impaired.
Hana will offer job training for those with hearing disabilities to pursue careers in baking, design, administration and barista work.
They will be offered assistance in resume writing, interviews and speech training.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Korea had about 2.64 million people with disabilities as of 2023, about 5 percent of the total population.
One in six households had a disabled member. Their monthly income averaged about 3 million won ($2,075), 63 percent of the national average.
They needed up to 720,000 won per month to buy rehabilitation devices and for maintenance costs thereafter.
