Google’s AI Chatbot Bard Spews Misinformation and Hate, Researchers Find

When Google introduced its new AI chatbot, Bard, Google CEO Sundar Pichai wrote that the new tech draws on information from the web to provide “fresh, high-quality responses.”

But a new report from the Center For Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) indicates Bard’s responses are far from “high-quality.”

Researchers from the organization tested Bard by offering 100 prompts on topics known for producing “hate, misinformation and conspiracy theories.” CCDH researchers asked the chatbot to write text about COVID-19, vaccines, sexism, racism, anti-semitism and the war in Ukraine.
