Gardai have initiated a probe into the tragic death of an infant at a residential property in Co Meath.
The child's passing was reported on Thursday, it has been revealed.
Following the heartbreaking incident, the baby's body was transported to a mortuary where a post-mortem examination is set to be conducted in due course.
The State Pathologist will be responsible for carrying out the post-mortem examination. The findings from this will guide the direction of the Gardaí's investigation.
In light of the sensitive nature of the case, Gardaí have assured that they will handle the investigation with the utmost care and respect, reports the Irish Mirror.
The investigation is reportedly still ongoing.
