PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida man was taken into custody last week after $102,000 was reported stolen from an armored truck at a Circle K gas station, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said that Stefon Carew, 37, went to the gas station — located along State Road 52 in Hudson — on Jan. 3, parking his van next to a GardaWorld armored truck.

Carew then unlocked the truck’s driver door, taking two money bags containing $54,000 and $48,000, respectively, deputies added.

In a complaint, detectives said that Carew then drove off in his van, though the incident had already been captured on a nearby surveillance camera.

Using facial recognition software and a pawn-shop receipt from October 2023, investigators were able to trace the van back to Carew, the complaint shows.

A warrant for Carew’s arrest was issued on Jan. 24, and he was ultimately arrested, court records show.

Carew was taken into custody on a bond of $100,000. He faces a charge of grand theft.
