First Minister Michelle O'Neill has encouraged people to "pause, reflect, and cherish the memories of family and friends who are no longer with us" this Christmas.
In her first Christmas message since taking up the office earlier this year, the Sinn Féin vice President expressed her gratitude to the healthcare staff and "unsung heroes" working in communities this festive season.
Looking ahead to 2025, Ms O'Neill said that there is "great possibilities ahead of us"
Michelle O'Neill said: “I wish everyone a very happy and peaceful Christmas and festive period. For many, it’s a time of great joy as we gather with loved ones around the table to create memories we will cherish for a lifetime.
“Christmas is also a time for us to pause, reflect, and cherish the memories of family and friends who are no longer with us at the table, but who remain close to our hearts every day.
“During the holidays, I encourage everyone to take a moment to check in on friends, neighbours, and those who may be going through particularly challenging times. A simple knock on the door or phone call can mean so much to someone’s Christmas.
“I also want to express my deep gratitude to those who spend their holiday period caring for our most vulnerable – including our healthcare staff and the many unsung heroes supporting families in our local communities.
“Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed. You are truly the salt of the earth.
“In 2025, we have great possibilities ahead of us, and by working together with a shared purpose, we can pave the way to a brighter future for everyone in our community.
“I hope you enjoy the holiday season with your loved ones and get the much-deserved rest you all deserve. Nollaig shona daoibh go léir.”
