Firefighters need your help to fill an ambulance full of new toys

IDAHO FALLS — Local firefighters are asking for the community’s help by filling an ambulance with toys to help those in need this holiday season. 

The Idaho Falls Firefighters IAFF Local 1565 and Idaho Falls Fire Department are doing this for the first time. It’s part of the 4th annual Supply and Toy Drive and Light Parade on Dec. 14. 

“As firefighters, we witness firsthand the unseen challenges and needs within our community. That is a driving force for us to always find ways we can help our community beyond a typical emergency response,” said Idaho Falls firefighter Donovan Hendrix.

Donated items will be given to support the Ronald McDonald Family Room and the Idaho Falls Rescue Mission.

Hendrix listed some of the items needed. They are asking for new toys, which will be given to local families. 

Legos  Baby and Barbie dolls Superhero action figures  Animal figurines Cars and trucks Board games (all ages) Teen items: journals, science, art, or jewelry kits Handheld sensory fidgets: spinners, stress balls Handheld games: Rubik’s cube, Etch a sketch, Memory Card games: Go Fish, UNO, Crazy Eight, 5 Second Rule Word finder books Colored pens and pencils Infant/baby rattles and teething rings Stuffed animals Infant/baby toys Puzzles for all ages Toys and baby dolls (newborn to 3) Preemie and newborn clothing

“The fire department and Local 1565 appreciate any help people are willing to give, even if it’s as simple as sharing and reposting our social media post to help get the word out,” Hendrix said. “It’s been amazing seeing the good in the community and the selflessness of others being willing to help others they don’t even know.”

Donations can be dropped off at any Idaho Falls fire station before noon on Dec. 13. 

In addition, on Saturday, Dec. 7, Reeds Dairy on Broadway will offer a free scoop of ice cream to anyone who brings and donates a toy for the cause from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
