The family of Tiernan Rooney have raised concerns regarding the investigation into his death as police say they are not linking the stabbing attack on him to his passing.

Tiernan Rooney was stabbed multiple times on the doorstep of his home on Conway Place in West Belfast on December 29, and passed away three days later on January 1, 2025, devastating his family and friends.

His family have called on the police to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding his death, however they have said they are not connecting his death to the injuries he sustained in the attack. The PSNI have said they are awaiting the result of a toxicology report.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police attended the scene of a sudden death of a man aged in his 30s in the Conway Place area of west Belfast on Wednesday, 1st January. A post-mortem has taken place to determine the cause of death, which is not being connected to injuries sustained from an earlier assault. Enquiries continue into the cause of death as we await the results of a toxicology report."

Tiernan's family have now raised concerns over the police investigation into his death and believe they have not done enough to see if his death is connected to the attack he suffered.

Lyndsey Rooney said: "As a family we have serious concerns with how the investigation into Tiernan's death has been handled and we think more could be done to determine whether the attack on him and his death are connected.

"The police never issued any appeals following the attack on Tiernan and we do not believe that a thorough enough post-mortem was carried out on him.

"The people who attacked Tiernan have been making threats towards our family and continue to walk the streets, despite there being video footage of the attack that has been given to police.

"We will be continuing to push this until there is a proper investigation into how Tiernan died and we feel police are trying all they can to put this down as something that is not suspicious when we believe that it is."
