A family has been left 'incredibly upset' after a number of items were removed from a grave, police say.

The items were taken from a grave at Altnagelvin Cemetery, on Church Brae in the Waterside. They are believed to have been removed during the week before storm Eowyn.

An appeal for information was launched by the PSNI this week. The road was closed on Wednesday morning, meanwhile, to deal with a number of trees that had fallen during the storm.

In a statement published on social media, a spokesperson for the PSNI in the Derry City and Strabane policing district said: "Police are currently investigating the removal of items from a grave at Altnagelvin Cemetery, Church Brae in the Waterside. The items were removed between 12/01/25 and 18/01/25 (the week before storm Éowyn)."

The spokesperson added: "Obviously this has been incredibly upsetting for the family involved so If you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area or removing items please contact police on 101 quoting ref 1296, 25/01/25"
