Ex-NI goalkeeper Roy Carroll joins ambitious Saudi club heading for Pro League

Former Northern Ireland goalkeeper Roy Carroll has secured a big move to Saudi Arabia. The Fermanagh man has landed a coaching role with Neom SC who currently sit top of Saudi Division One.

Carroll will be based in Tabuk and work with as goalkeeper co-ordinator at Neom, who currently hold a 10-point lead at the top of Division One and look set to earn promotion into the Saudi Pro League which includes stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

Neom are one of the most exciting teams to emerge in the Saudi league, and have undergone some massive change in the past three years.

Carroll's RC1 coaching school in Northern Ireland said on Facebook: "Our founder Roy Carroll has recently taken up a new role as Goalkeeper coordinator at Saudi Pro League club Neom SC For the foreseeable Roy will be based in Saudi Arabia and we wish him all the very best in this exciting new role.

"We will be taking an extended break from our sessions and we will make an announcement in due course as we plan out for the future at RC1. For all our dedicated keepers keep working hard and we will be in touch soon."

Carroll won 45 caps for Northern Ireland and also played for clubs including Manchester United, West Ham United, Wigan Athletic, Rangers and Linfield.

He won the Premier League and FA Cup during his time at Old Trafford, and won two league titles during his time with Linfield.

Since retiring from playing Carroll has worked with Northern Ireland at various age levels and launched his own coaching school. He recently came out of retirement to help hometown club Ballinamallard United.
