'Entitled dad on plane asked me to swap seats for his son - his reason left me fuming'

1 week ago 330

A man has been left fuming after he was allegedly asked to change seats on a plane so that a child could enjoy the window view.

He recounted his experience of flying back from Brazil, where he had been visiting family, and how he had specifically pre-booked a window seat for the lengthy journey.

He chose the window seat to take in the scenery while listening to music and passing the time. However, upon reaching his seat, he encountered a "cheeky" request from a fellow passenger seated nearby with a child.

Sharing his story on Reddit, he wrote: "On the way back, this stranger who was seated on the middle plane seats across from me with his child asked me if I could give up my window seat for his kid. I said, 'sorry, but no. I paid an extra 200 dollars for this seat'.

"I was expecting him to be understanding and mind his own business but instead he just glared at me."

Trying to ignore the situation, he put his headphones back on and resumed gazing out of the window. But within minutes, a flight attendant tapped him on the shoulder.

He continued: "A flight attendant taps me on the shoulder asking me if I could give up my seat for his kid. I pulled out my ticket and the receipt I got when I paid extra for the window seat and told her 'no, I paid extra for window seat.'".

"The flight attendant apologised with a 'Okay, sorry to bother you sir.' I watched her return to the man and relay my refusal," he added. "He glared at me one last time and that was that.

"I think he really thought he could get the flight attendant to take his side and force me out of my seat."

While the bloke was chuffed that he stood his ground, he took to social media to see what others would do in his boots. A response from one user read: "If your kid having a window seat is so important then buy one yourself."

Another chimed in with a suggestion for future incidents: "If a situation like this happens again, let them know that there is a £500 surcharge in order for you to move."

A different user shared their perspective: "When I flew alone I really didn't cared where I sat and didn't paid extra for a pre-chosen seat. But, if you do care about sitting together, then pay more and don't harass other people to give up their seat for you."

Someone else shared their experience: "I've switched seats before as a single flyer, but never at my expense. I actually got a way better seat with way more leg room."

Finally, a passionate response made it clear: "If I paid extra for a certain place then I'm going to stay there, or get paid a higher amount to move. The entitled father should've thought about his child when buying the tickets."
