Out come the players at the Al Bayt Stadium...

Time to observe the anthems as England hope to avoid slipping up against the African champions. Remember, France are waiting for the winner here in the quarter-finals.

Southgate reveals he has already spoken with Sterling

'Sterling is dealing with a family matter,' Southgate told ITV. 'I spent a bit of time with him this morning. We've passed him on to other people to help him with that. He's going to deal with that matter and we take it from there really.'

18:16

Bellingham stepping into some rather famous shoes here

Michael Owen proved that night that age was no barrier to an excellent performance either.

18:13

TOM PYMAN: The Manchester United forward already has three goals to his name in Qatar after bagging a brace against Wales and another in the 6-2 demolition of Iran.

But despite his impressive form, Southgate has opted for Arsenal's Bukayo Saka to start in the last-16 clash, while Raheem Sterling has also misses out to deal with a 'family matter'.

Supporters though are not happy with Rashford's absence.

England fans also look in high spirits heading into the stadium

18:04

From Mail on Sunday's chief sports writer Oliver Holt

Whoever Southgate left out of the front three tonight, it was going to be a big call. Rashford missing out is a big call but the manager has made a habit of getting the big calls right at major tournaments. Let's hope that holds this evening.

Here is our full report on Sterling's absence this evening, which you can read more on below.

17:57

Senegal make two alterations from their previous match

One of them enforced as the suspended Idrissa Gueye drops out the team, with Pape Gueye also missing out as Nampalys Mendy and Krepin Diatta coming in.

17:53

England then as expected make just one change from the Wales win

In comes in attack as Bukayo Saka is restored in place of Marcus Rashford, despite the Manchester United forward scoring twice last time out against Wales.

Jordan Henderson keeps his place in the side in favour of Jude Bellingham.

Pickford, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw, Bellingham, Rice, Henderson, Saka, Foden Kane.

17:35

Meanwhile, Senegal's stars have arrived at the Al Bayt Stadium

17:30

Raheem Sterling is OUT of England's clash with Senegal

The forward will be unavailable for selection for the last-16 clash with Senegal due to a family issue. It is of course a huge blow for Gareth Southgate and the Three Lions but let's hope all is ok with Sterling too.

Sportsmail's sources indicate that Sterling may have even flown home.

17:29

Our now famous Senegal fans will be back in the stands for this one

The supporters spelling out the name of the national team have helped add to the atmosphere during Senegal's games throughout this tournament  with their dancing during the game and it's good to see they will be back again this evening.

There was an amusing clip of a fan with a Morocco scarf joining in with them during the week - sadly though he is nowhere to be seen.

17:17

Who remembers England's previous last-16 encounter at the World Cup?

That night in Russia when suddenly England's World Cup campaign in 2018 really took off. After a 1-1 draw with Colombia, the match went to penalties and England fans probably thought the worst given the team's previous awful record at shoot-outs.

But Jordan Pickford's outstanding save after Colombia hit the crossbar eventually allowed Eric Dier to stroke home the winning spot-kick and send England into the quarter-finals.

What a night!

17:11

ROBERT DINEEN: The African Cup of Nations champions faced a huge blow on the eve of the tournament when their talisman and key player Sadio Mane was ruled out through injury.

However, there are several other stars in Aliou Cisse's squad who have stepped up during their memorable run to the knockout stages.

That is because France have just beaten Poland 3-1, thanks to a second half double from a classy Kylian Mbappe after Olivier Giroud's first half strike.

Poland eventually found the net through Robert Lewandowski but only with the last kick of the game from the penalty spot.

France now sit back and wait for the winner of tonight's fixture in the last eight.

FWIW (not a lot) it’s the team I would have picked - Saka/Foden

England will be wearing their white home strip again this evening

No sign of the popular red shirt appearing again, but is the white home shirt growing on you a little? Not many liked it when it was released.

Senegal will instead be wearing their change colours of green.

16:34

England will start Saka against Senegal and drop Marcus Rashford

Sportsmail now understands following earlier reports that Bukayo Saka will be coming back into the England side, and it will be Marcus Rashford making way for him.

Harsh on the Manchester United forward?

16:30

Wayne Rooney has admitted Gareth Southgate's England side can learn from their shock Euro 2016 defeat by Iceland to overcome the pressures of playing knockout football.

England fans have been enjoying themselves in Qatar before the game

16:17

It's time to have a little look on what England are up against this evening. The Three Lions may be favourites to win this game but beware of the threat Senegal could possess.

They haven't reached this stage for 20 years when at Korea/Japan they reached the quarter-finals, but back then they were not expected to go beyond to get out of the group.

This may be a different team but even without talisman Sadio Mane it's a good one and England will have to be at their best this evening.

Here is a pre-tournament piece looking back at Senegal's memorable 2002 World Cup.

Could Marcus Rashford be the man to miss out for England?

Interesting reports from elsewhere concerning how England will line up tonight, with Sky now believing it could be a front three of Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden to support Harry Kane, indicating Marcus Rashford may be the forward missing out despite scoring twice in the 3-0 win over Wales in an excellent display.

15:59

The Al Bayt Stadium is ready and waiting for England against Senegal

England have already played at the Al Bayt Stadium once, but perhaps to a few concerned it was against the USA when they put in by far their worst tournament in a 0-0 draw.

15:50

England's game against Senegal will be the toughest test of Harry Maguire's World Cup campaign so far, according to Sportsmail's CHRIS SUTTON.

The defender has enjoyed a positive tournament so far after doubts over his place in the side following a poor run of form for club Manchester United that saw him lose his place in the starting XI and fall down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

So what England will turn up tonight?

The side that struggled so badly against the USA? The team that went goal crazy against Iran? Or the side that effortlessly dumped Wales out of the competition.

I guess that's why we are all here and we will get our answer soon enough as Gareth Southgate's (below) men take on Senegal in the last-16 of the World Cup. Good afternoon all.
