Emmerdale viewers are speculating that Anthony Fox (played by Nicholas Day) may still be alive following medical intervention from John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth).
Earlier this year, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) assaulted Anthony. When he and John returned to the depot, they discovered Anthony seemingly lifeless, leading Aaron to believe he had killed him.
Unbeknownst to Aaron, during his absence from the depot, Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) had entered and murdered her abusive father.
Before learning the true cause of Anthony's death, Aaron and John collaborated in an attempt to conceal the crime. As a former army member, John assured Aaron that he would find it easier to dispose of Anthony's body.
John later confirmed that Anthony's body was buried in the woods, sparking suspicions about his true intentions, reports Leeds Live.
After months of suspicion, the ITV soap revealed that John, a paramedic, had been intentionally harming people only to save them later, thus appearing as a hero.
However, on Thursday (April 10), a flashback showed John injecting Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) in the neck with medicine. Before he could administer the antidote, Nate had died.
John then wrapped Nate's body and disposed of it in a lake, where it remains undiscovered.
He has also endangered the lives of several other villagers, including Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) and Jacob Gallagher (Joe Warren-Plant).
Emmerdale fans are abuzz with speculation that Anthony might still be alive, clinging to the notion that John might have saved him since his body hasn't been found yet. Fans reason that John is not a killer by nature but instead, someone who often tries to save lives to play the hero.
On Facebook, one viewer predictably theorised: "Anthony isn't dead! John hurts to save!" This prompted another fan to respond: "I don't think Anthony is dead. I think he's in on it with John. If he is actually John."
Over on Reddit, a curious post popped up: " Do you think John saved Anthony? He looked pretty dead to me, but this is Emmerdale, so it's entirely possible."
Another person chimed in, intrigued: "The fact that we have yet to see what John actually did with his body is intriguing to me. Of course, there could be more flashbacks to explain but this is an interesting theory. Not sure if I think it's possible or not."
Topping off the wild theorising, one viewer mused about the poetic justice of it all: "It would be ironic if we find Anthony chained to a radiator in a basement months and months later. Considering what happened to his character in Coronation Street", a fan pointed out.
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV and ITVX
