Emmerdale's Paula Lane might be swapping the Dales for another soap opera following her departure from the show.
Lane joined the Emmerdale cast in 2024, portraying the character of Ella Forster, a woman with a mysterious past and plenty of hidden secrets. As it transpired, Ella had committed a grave crime at the tender age of 11, resulting in the death of her best friend.
This led to a prison sentence and a life spent constantly on the move after her release. Previously known as Ruth, Ella managed to find some stability upon her arrival in the Dales in January 2024.
She formed a close bond with Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) and even kindled a romance with GP Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), although their relationship has since ended, reports Leicestershire Live.
However, reports last year indicated that Paula had bid farewell to Emmerdale after a mere 16 months. The soap has recently been setting the stage for Ella's exit.
Last week, Ella found herself accused of drugging Liam's fiancee Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter). Despite her vehement denials, she was not believed and subsequently left the Dales.
This week saw Ella return to the village, only for events to take a dramatic turn when she nearly caused Liam's death during a confrontation in the woods. Thankfully, Liam survived the ordeal and urged Ella to seek professional help. Ella was later arrested again, seemingly cementing her departure from Emmerdale.
Actress Paula Lane, known for her role as Kylie Platt on Coronation Street, might be eyeing up a new soap opera challenge. Having made a name for herself in 2010 and exiting the cobbles in dramatic fashion in 2016, there's speculation about her next move.
Bookmakers are placing bets on her potential to join another soap, with exclusive odds from Betway suggesting she's at 5/1 to step into BBC's EastEnders.
Her chances of landing a part in a different TV drama stand at 6/1, while the odds of her braving the jungle in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! later this year are 8/1.
Betway's spokesperson Mike Reading commented: "Paula Lane has been a household favourite in British soaps for over 15 years now, recently departing Emmerdale as Ella Forster, but is perhaps best known for her role as Kylie Platt in Coronation Street."
He added: "Our traders think her next move could be a sensational move to Eastenders and make her a 5/1 shot to become a regular in Albert Square!".
"Outside of a return to a soap, she's priced up at 6/1 to land a role in another major TV drama and is 8/1 to swap scripts for survival in I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! later this year."
Reading also noted: "Meanwhile, she's 10/1 to enter the Celebrity Big Brother house when the doors open next week, where she could potentially reunite with her former on-screen husband, Jack P. Shepherd, who is rumoured to be taking part."
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
