Eamonn Holmes reveals he was arrested when he was 10-years-old

2 months ago 202

Eamonn Holmes has shared an extraordinary childhood story of being arrested at the tender age of 10 during a football trip to Manchester. The GB News presenter disclosed that he took a boat from Northern Ireland to Liverpool as a youngster to watch his beloved team, Manchester United, play.

However, upon arriving in the UK, his father was "arrested for having no identification."

They were only released after their family doctor gave a speech stating that this is "against the Hippocratic oath. Speaking about his experience, Eamonn said: "I was lifted over the turnstiles, I remember. Things happened that just would not happen now. So, the only reason we got out on the same boat was our family doctor.

"Our doctor Paul McKeown and I always remember him standing, I was a 10-year-old, saying I have taken the Hippocratic oath, and you dare question me."

The doctor "shuddered at the Special Branch" before the family was released and put on a bus. "We got released and put on a bus, and we end up at Old Trafford, we had got tickets for the wrong part of the ground.

"So my dad lifts me and my brother over the turnstiles, and then my dad went to the Stretford End, so we were completely separated. I was only 10."

Eamonn was recounting the extraordinary scenes at Wembley Stadium as Newcastle United sealed a tremendous victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, ending a 70-year wait for major silverware.

The Magpies edged past the title-holders in an unforgettable clash that will be etched in the memories of their devout fans for years to come.

Not since the 1954/55 season when they claimed the FA Cup has Newcastle United celebrated such a significant triumph, with decades of near misses and letdowns finally giving way to glory on this landmark occasion.

For Liverpool, the loss is all the more stinging as they aimed to secure back-to-back cup successes following last year's win with manager Jurgen Klopp.
