Eamonn Holmes' pal sets record straight on engagement rumours after Ruth Langsford split

6 months ago 325

Friends of Eamonn Holmes have weighed in on the relationship between the television personality and his new partner, Katie Alexander, who is 22 years younger than him.

At 65, Eamonn and 43 year old Katie have been spotted enjoying a romantic getaway in Paris, following the GB News presenter's split from his wife Ruth Langsford, 64, with whom he "confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing" seven months ago.

A source close to Eamonn reportedly told The Daily Mail about their first impressions upon seeing the couple together, saying, "The first time I saw Katie I thought: 'What! Is this for real?'".

Despite rumours, another friend has quashed the speculation that Eamonn and Katie are engaged, after she was seen wearing a large diamond ring on her wedding finger during their Parisian holiday.

This friend clarified to the publication that Eamonn is "categorically" not engaged to Katie, but confirmed that "they are both very serious about each other and about the romance", adding, "it seems to be heading for marriage, but they are definitely not engaged."

Meanwhile, a confidant of Ruth has indicated that the Loose Women presenter "has absolutely no interest in a new romantic partner" and is eagerly anticipating the festive season with her 22 year old son Jack, whom she shares with Eamonn, and her mother Joan, aged 93. Joan was recently hospitalised following a fall that resulted in a fractured pelvis.

Eamonn had previously expressed his desire to maintain a friendship with Ruth despite their ongoing divorce, remarking at the TRIC Awards in the summer: "It's too early to say but I hope we can still be friends."

He also appeared to extend an olive branch to his former partner this month by liking one of Ruth's social media posts, which contained an optimistic update on the condition of her dearly loved mother.
