Drugs worth £2,500 seized following "planned search" in Derry city, say PSNI

Drugs worth around £2,500 have been seized by police in Derry following what the PSNI described as a "planned search" in the city on Monday.

An image supplied by the PSNI showed pills in blister packs with labels reading "pregabalin" - the name of a prescription drug used to treat epilepsy and anxiety.

A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of various drug offences and remained in police custody on Monday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Police in Derry City & Strabane have seized suspected drugs and made an arrest during a planned search in the city today, Monday 3rd February.

"The search of a property in the cityside was conducted by District Support Team officers, who seized a quantity of suspected Class B and Class C controlled drugs, with a total estimated street value of close to £2,500. Officers arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of attempted possession of a Class C controlled drug with intent to supply, Possession of a Class C controlled drug, possession of a Class C controlled drug with intent to supply and possession of a Class B controlled drug. He remains in custody at this time."

The spokesperson added: "Enquiries continue."

District Support Team Inspector Pearce said: "We are committed to tackling the illegal supply and use of drugs and will continue to work relentlessly to tackle this issue. I encourage anyone with concerns or information about the supply or use of illegal drugs to call 101.”
