A driver was caught driving at over 100mph on a Northern Irish motorway earlier this week.

On Friday, PSNI Road Policing Officers shared that they had caught three drivers speeding on the M1 over the period of a few hours, two of which were restricted drivers.

Taking to social media, officers from Mahon Road station said that they had caught two R drivers going 94mph and 85mph and a third driver, who has held her licence for less than two years, was caught going 101mph.

The third driver had previously had been caught speeding, having three points already on her licence.

In a social media post, a PSNI spokesperson said: "In just a matter of a few hours, Road Policing officers from Mahon Road station detected these three drivers speeding on the M1.

"Two of them were restricted drivers, meaning they must display R plates and are limited to 45mph for 1 year.

"The 3rd, although no longer within her restricted period, had held her licence for less than 2 years and can therefore not have any more than 6 penalty points on her licence.

"Unfortunately for her, she already had 3 points for speeding. Now that she has been caught again, this time at 101mph, she will very likely be looking at losing her licence for a period of time when she appears in court.

"The other 2 drivers could be facing the same outcome."
