HAYDEN – A driver was arrested in northern Idaho after speeding through a red light, crashing into another vehicle, nearly hitting an Idaho State Police trooper and rolling his vehicle.
It happened Monday around 9:30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 95 in Hayden, according to a news release from Idaho State Police.
ISP report the driver, whose name and hometown were not released, was traveling south on Highway 95 in a red Honda SUV. His speed surpassed 100 mph at milepost 449 and his emergency flashers were on.
A trooper from Coeur d’Alene caught up with the driver in Hayden. The speeding Honda driver was headed south.
“Eastbound traffic had a green light and started to enter the intersection. The driver of the Honda ran the red light and caused a t-bone crash with a silver Subaru Legacy,” the news release says.
The Subaru came to a stop in the southbound lane, blocking traffic.
The Honda driver crossed the median and nearly hit the trooper before rolling the vehicle. It came to a stop on a bike path between U.S. 95 and a grocery store.
“The Trooper and a deputy with Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office immediately rendered aid,” the ISP report says. “At no time was the vehicle ever involved in a pursuit with law enforcement.”
The Honda driver was booked in the Kootenai County Jail for aggravated reckless driving after being medically cleared.
The case remains under investigation.
