Detectives investigating the stabbing of two women in Downpatrick on Friday have charged a man to court.
The man, aged 26, has been charged with a number of offences including two counts of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence. He is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court today, Saturday March 15.
The charges relate to an incident in the Co Down town yesterday. Police said shortly after 8.30am on Friday, they received a report that a man armed with two knives was attacking two women inside a property on Stream Street. The altercation spilled outside and one of the women, a 35-year-old, was further "violently assaulted" in the back garden sustaining a serious knife wound to her neck and other lacerations to her head and face
A PSNI spokesperson said: "As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service."
Local Inspector Eamonn Campbell added: "Both women were taken to hospital, one via air ambulance and one by road, however whilst serious, their injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time."
