Don, the Atlantic’s fifth named storm, officially because the season’s first hurricane on Saturday afternoon, according to the National Hurricane Center.
With max winds of 75 mph, Don became a hurricane just before reaching cooler waters.
The hurricane is not a threat to land at this time and is forecast to become post-tropical over the central-north Atlantic early next week.

Hurricane Don is moving north at 12 mph with the center located 480 miles south-southeast of Cape Race Newfoundland.
