A controlling, abusive boyfriend who would prevented his girlfriend from using the bathroom alone is jailed for 40 months.

Luke Mackie, 21, subjected NHS nurse Nicole Connor, 23, to almost a year of physical and mental torment.

However, when she bravely ended their relationship, Mackie harassed her for two months. He followed her to work and her home and spammed her with abusive text messages and phone calls.

He was sentenced to 40 months imprisonment at Dundee Sheriff Court on December 14.

Mackie will also be supervised for a further 12 months after his release and has been ordered not to contact or approach Ms Connor or his other victim for three years.

In October, Mackie pleaded guilty at Dundee Sheriff Court to 12 charges, which included coercive control of Ms Connor between October 2020 to July 2021.

However he went on to abuse others. He also pleaded guilty to four charges against another woman, two counts of threatening behaviour and possessing cocaine and four other assaults - including an attack on two police officers.

Ms Connor told the Daily Record: 'I'm relieved he's behind bars. He can't just walk away and do it to someone else - that was my biggest fear.

'He's scum and I will never forgive him.'

She then went onto to say that she did not want his apology.

Nicole's mother, Michelle, 56, said Mackie's jail sentence was the best Christmas gift.

Ms Connor had to move in with her mother to feel safe after her harrowing ordeal. She also takes anti-anxiety medication and sleeping pills.

Mackie and Ms Connor entered a relationship in October 2020, however it soon turned nasty and aggressive.

On one occasion, he threatened that police might become involved.

Mackie then abused another woman by bashing her on the head and body at a taxi rank in January 2022, before going on to attack two police officers.

A month later at a hotel in Edinburgh, the second victim was subjected to further abuse and violence from Mackie.

He went on to point a glass bottle at her neck, waved a boiled kettle at her and tossed her onto the bed before spitting in her face and refused to let her leave.

During a taxi journey, Mackie hurled insults at the woman before throwing her phone onto a tramline and hitting her in the face.

Mike Short, defending, asked the sheriff not to put Mackie in custody, but rather enroll him on the Caledonian Programme rehabilitation scheme as he believed this was a better solution for society in the long term than jail.

But Sheriff Murray called the offences 'harrowing' and sentenced him to imprisonment.
