David Healy hails collective Linfield contract decision as he scotches 'mugged off' talk

David Healy is expecting talks about his Linfield future adding that the club's recent title success proves he made the right decision to stay at Windsor Park.

Raith Rovers made an approach for Healy back in August before the Blues boss agreed to extend his deal with the champions until the end of new season.

Healy said some had suggested he and his agent had "mugged the club off" but the former Manchester United striker insists securing a sixth league title in nine seasons proves different.

"I don’t lie awake at night wondering whether Linfield is going to move me on or sack me," said Healy. "But being a smart man, which I hope I’ve learned during my time as manager here, I knew come November or December if things weren’t working out that the odds would be stacked against me.

"We fought a good fight. There was speculation that my agent and I had mugged the club off (over new contract). I think today proves that we got it right as a collective decision.

"I made my decision coming off after the reception I got after the Loughgall game. The players needed somebody in charge and I felt at the time I was the best man for the job."

Healy is determined to enjoy the title celebrations as the season draws to a close before business starts again.

With one-year left on his deal doesn't want "everything left up in the air" so he is expecting discussions to be held with the club ahead of the new campaign.

“I’d imagine I will sit down at some stage with the club,” said Healy. “I did say that what I don’t want is to be left in a predicament where everything is left up in the air – that’s for me and the club.

"What that does is potentially derail a title challenge, whether that’s in October, December.

"I’ll enjoy the next three games, we have the AGM and club function which we will all enjoy as a group, I’ll go on holiday and try to switch my phone off.

"Preparations have already started. We leave no stone unturned...we probably have one or two loose ends we need to tie up around our own playing staff for next year, but everything is in place and ready to go again.”
