Pedestrians and dog walkers were almost hit by a car driving dangerously in Newry, police have said.

Police were alerted to the Black Kia Rio driving dangerously on grass off of First Avenue in the city at around 7.45pm on Tuesday, February 25, by members of the public.

It was reported that the vehicle almost collided with a number of pedestrians and dog walkers who were in the area at the time, although nobody was injured.

Police have now issued an appeal to identify the driver of the vehicle and possibly any passengers onboard who they say "clearly have no regard for the safety of the local community".

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police in Newry received a report this evening at approximately 745pm of a vehicle being driven dangerously on the grass off First Avenue, almost colliding with several pedestrians and dog walkers.

"Thanks to the members of the public who reported this, the vehicle has now been taken off the road. We’re very fortunate the grass was the only casualty tonight.

"The vehicle concerned is a Black Kia Rio, registration YEZ4837 and pictured below.

"We are appealing for any witnesses to identify the driver and possibly passengers who clearly have no regard for the safety of the local community.

"Please contact us on 101, quoting reference 1684 of 25/02/25."
