Coronation Street's Vicky Myers revealed she was almost rejected from her popular DS Lisa Swain role.

The actress, 49, who has played DS Swain since 2021, appeared on Friday's episode of Off Script... Coronation Street & Emmerdale with Kelvin and Liz Fletcher.

During the interview, Kelvin, 41, asked: "Is it true you've been in Coronation Street before and that also could have possibly stopped you becoming Lisa Swain?"

To which Vicky admitted: "It wasn't specifically that but I have been in Coronation Street twice before and the second time, I didn't audition!", adding her role involved working with Tyrone Dobbs actor Alan Halsall and driving a vehicle.

Vicky added: "But what almost stopped me from even being asked to self tape for Lisa Swain, who wasn't Lisa Swain, she was just DS Swain, and it was for four episodes.

"Head of casting, Gennie Radcliffe, pulled me to one side when we were casting for Betsy and she said you know, 'this is quite surreal', I'm paraphrasing there, 'all this is happening thinking I very nearly didn't ask you to audition for Lisa because you had played a police woman a couple of times before previously.'

"She just wondered whether if I'd be interested in doing it...", adding it had been four years this week since she first stepped foot on the cobbles and reflecting on how far her character had come.

Coronation Street continues on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITV X.
