Coronation Street fans believe they've pieced together the puzzle of Cassie Plummer's unexpected pregnancy - and Steve McDonald isn't the father.
Claire Sweeney's character, Cassie, made her dramatic entrance onto the cobbles in 2023 as Tyrone Dobbs' (Alan Halsall) long-lost mother, quickly stirring up a storm. Last year, viewers were taken aback when Cassie began to poison Ken (Will Roache).
The two formed an unlikely bond when Ken required care following a fall that left him injured. In addition to medicating Ken, Cassie also began to swindle him out of his money, going so far as to steal his credit card to splurge on extravagant purchases.
Meanwhile, amidst her sinister scheme, Cassie kindled a romance with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson). However, her plans came crashing down in February when Ken uncovered her deceit and exposed her, reports Plymouth Live.
Since then, Cassie has been the most despised resident of the street - even prompting her mother Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) to return from university to try and rectify the situation.
This week, however, Steve offered Cassie a second chance, much to her delight. In Friday's episode (March 28), he apologised to Cassie for his recent harsh treatment.
While looking after Tim (Joe Duttine) and Sally (Sally Dynevor) Metcalfe's house, Steve invited Cassie over for a cuppa. The encounter took a flirtatious turn when the pair shared a kiss before heading upstairs.
Later, the duo made their way downstairs clad only in Tim and Sally's bathrobes. Cassie even floated the idea of a cheeky skinny dip in Tim and Sally's hot tub.
However, viewers are now speculating that Cassie might find herself expecting, but with a dramatic twist – they suspect Steve won't be the dad.
On a 'Coronation Street' Facebook fan group, one member commented on a clip of Steve and Cassie: "She'll be pregnant next you watch."
Another fan concurred: "I thought that too." Another fan speculated about the paternity, posting: "With Steve's baby? Nah my money is on some random." And yet another agreed, simply stating: "Probably."
