Conor McGregor slammed for posing with Nigel Farage ahead of Donald Trump inauguration

Conor McGregor has stirred up controversy after sharing a photo with Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. The Irish UFC fighter was seen beaming and shaking hands with the British politician as he travelled to Washington for Donald Trump's inauguration.

Today, Trump is set to be sworn in for his second term at the White House, marking eight years since his initial oath-taking ceremony.

Taking to social media, McGregor expressed his reverence for the event, stating: "Honour to be in Washington, D.C., to support @realDonaldTrump the newly elected leader of the free world, and to stand with the 13 families who lost their loved ones at Abbey Gate."

This was in reference to a tragic 2021 event where an ISIS suicide bomber attacked Kabul Airport's Abbey Gate, resulting in the loss of 13 US service members and many Afghan civilians.

On X, the social platform formerly known as Twitter, McGregor also posted a photo with Farage, captioning it: "We are so back! " - @Nigel_Farage #MyBrother. The two looked chummy in front of the camera, but online reactions to the snapshot have been mixed, to say the least, reports the Mirror.

Criticism hasn't held back on social media, with comments ranging from directive advice to outright disappointment. One user advised, "Well, tell your 'brother' to stop acting like a stereotypical politician and start acting like himself again" while another bluntly remarked, "You were an absolute joke. Now you're worse. You seem to get worse and worse."

A third individual expressed their shock on social media, stating: "Ewww. @Nigel_Farage what are you f*****g doing, for f**** sake? " Another added their disappointment by saying: "Just, when you thought Conor couldn't go lower."

There was further criticism with a comment reading: "What a pair of horrible w******." One person felt strongly enough to tell the involved parties to "Hang your head in shame."

Conor McGregor took a flight to America from Dublin Airport last Saturday accompanied by his long-term mentor John Kavanagh. Ahead of boarding a private jet, Kavanagh posted a celebratory photo with 'The Notorious', remarking: "Will be a memorable birthday! Heading to the inauguration with the champchamp, thanks for the invite @thenotoriousmma we've had some memorable Jan18ths! ."

Recently, McGregor was on the losing side of a civil sexual assault case in November. He's been ordered to pay plaintiff Nikita Hand a sum of £200,000 after being deemed liable for assaulting her; the alleged incident involving Hand occurred in a Dublin hotel about six years ago.

The 36 year old sports star has indicated he will appeal against the decision. However, following the outcome, several sponsors have distanced themselves from the Irishman. At the pre-inauguration event, former President Trump exuded confidence, telling his audience that they had "built a new American majority that will lead our country to success for generations to come."

He added: "Tomorrow, at noon, the curtain closes on four long years of American decline, and we begin a brand-new day of American strength and prosperity, dignity and pride," He then emphasized: "We not only won a mandate, but we built a new American majority that will lead our country to success for generations to come."
