Coleraine's two-goal hero Connor Murray hails impact of teammate after 'massive result' against Linfield

Connor Murray grabbed the headlines as his brace helped Coleraine secure a "massive result" over Linfield but the Scottish playmaker was quick to praise one of his teammates following the much-needed win.

The Bannsiders' top six have been hanging in the balance as they have struggled for consistency of late with only four league wins in as many months.

With only six games left until the split it was vital for Dean Shiels men to start picking up victories, but few would have predicted them to start at the home of the runaway league leaders.

But Coleraine were well worth the three points at Windsor Park with Murray scoring in either half while at the other end the defence shut out the Blues.

Murray hailed the contribution of the defenders and in particular that of January signing Charles Dunne, who marshalled the rearguard superbly.

"I thought we defended excellently and I thought big Charles was excellent today," said Murray. "It's a massive result but we've got a really good squad in there.

"There's a lot of good players but in the dressing room we know we can dig out results like that but we haven't done that this season.

"It just shows that we can do it...and that's got to be the bar set as Linfield are the best team in the league. To come here and get that result is massive for us."

On his goals Murray added: "I'm not too sure what happened with my second goal but the first one was a good team goal. Kyle (Spence) teed the first on a plate for me and I just did the rest.

"As I say I'm not sure what happened as I didn't see the ball when it hit the net. I've caught the ball okay but it must have had a bit of movement on it and it ended up in the net - but I'll take it!"
