The anti-corruption investigation office has requested the prosecution and police to refer their ongoing probe cases on last week's botched martial law declaration, officials said Sunday.
The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) said in a notice to reporters that it made the decision to ensure a swift and fair investigation, and to ease concerns over overlapping investigations.
Since Tuesday's abrupt and brief martial law imposition by President Yoon Suk Yeol, the CIO, police and the prosecution have each launched their own probe into the case.
The moves have sparked concerns over the overlapping of jurisdiction.
The CIO said it has sent letters to the prosecution and police to request they send the case to the investigation office.
It remains uncertain whether the prosecution or police will accept the CIO's request. The prosecution and police said they will state their positions after reviewing related laws.
Earlier in the day, the prosecution said it is willing to work with police upon its request for a joint probe, an option the police said it is not considering at the current stage. (Yonhap)
