Carrickfergus assault: Man due in court charged with attempted murder

A man has been charged with attempted murder following an assault in Carrickfergus.

A 47-year-old man is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court on Friday, December 6, after being arrested on Thursday, December 6, in connection with the assault which took place on Tuesday, December 3.

It was reported that a man was taken to hospital with injuries to his head and body following an assault in the Irish Quarter West area at around 9.45pm.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Detectives investigating the serious assault of a man in Carrickfergus on the evening of Tuesday 3rd December, have charged a 47-year-old man with attempted murder.

"He was arrested earlier today, Thursday 5 December and is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Friday 6 December.

"As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service."
