A number of cardiac surgeries have been cancelled at the Belfast Trust due to "unexpected staff absences".

The Belfast Trust has apologised to patients for the delays in the surgeries saying that the recent cancellations were due to unexpected staff absences.

Belfast Live understands at least 15 surgeries, which are not believed to be emergency procedures, have to be rescheduled for when the staff members are back at work.

A Spokesperson said: "Belfast Trust is rescheduling a number of cardiac surgeries due to unexpected staff absence and we are contacting the patients affected to make them aware of their new date. We sincerely apologise for this delay to service."
