NWS Miami reported more than 20 inches of rain near airport on Wednesday afternoon
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was closed on Wednesday afternoon as the surrounding area became embroiled in a flash flood warning, according to airport officials.
On Wednesday, the National Weather Service in Miami announced an emergency flash flood for areas near Hollywood, Dania Beach and Fort Lauderdale.

— NWS Miami (@NWSMiami) April 13, 2023According to NWS Miami, the area near the airport received more than 20 inches of rain within six hours on Wednesday afternoon.
At 7:25 p.m., airport officials announced that the airport would be closed to flights and roadway traffic until further notice. They added that the entrance and exit roads near the airport were still flooded and congested with traffic.
