A boiler expert has emphasised the importance of knowing how to heat your home effectively during the cold months. Proper heating methods can ensure your home stays warm without incurring excessive bills or risking frozen pipes.
The specialist advised maintaining a consistent temperature rather than cranking up the heat during colder spells. They suggested that the "ideal temperature" for winter comfort and boiler efficiency is between 18C and 20C.
The expert from from New Boiler Installation highlighted: "To avoid frozen pipes, you should set a minimum temperature on your boiler during winter."

"Even when you're not at home, it's advisable to keep your thermostat at a minimum of 10C to prevent costly pipe-freezing issues."
They also pointed out the benefits of smart thermostats, which offer precise control over heating systems and allow homeowners to set schedules that match their daily routines. With temperatures dropping to freezing, water in the pipes can freeze and expand, leading to cracks or bursts, causing significant water damage if a pipe bursts, reports the Express.
While maintaining a minimum thermostat setting is crucial, the expert also recommended insulating any exposed pipes or those in unheated areas with insulation sleeves or foam pipe, commonly referred to as pipe lagging.
If you're planning a winter getaway, it's wise to turn off your mains stop tap and open the lowest sink or bath tap to alleviate the initial pressure on the pipework.
