MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Officials are urging some Montgomery Co. residents to boil their water before consumption following a water main break in a 12-inch pipe. The pipe runs along MacArthur Blvd. in the Cabin John and Glen Echo area, officials say.

The WSSC has issued a Boil Water Advisory amid the contamination and officials say that around 2,200 people are impacted by the incident. To know if you are being impacted by this Boil Water Advisory, click here.

Officials are recommending people boil their water for one minute and bring it to a cool if they will be drinking water, brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, preparing baby food and formula, making ice and giving water to pets. Water that is being used for bathing does not need to be boiled as long as it is not being consumed, officials add.

It is also recommended that all recently stored water, drinks and ice should be discarded and that the boiled water can be stored in a clean container that has a cover.

The WSSC's water system lost pressure after the water main broke and officials say there is an increased risk of water contamination when this happens. Officials say that the water will be tested for safety from the impact area.
