Gardai believe a couple found dead in their Kerry home this morning died in a personal tragedy from carbon monoxide poisoning.
The shocking discovery was made by concerned locals in Glenbeigh after the couple had not been seen for several months. It is understood that Gardai believe the couple, who were in their 50s, died in a personal tragedy and do not suspect any third-party involvement.
The line of inquiry currently being pursued by Gardai relates to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. However, officers are awaiting the results of a postmortem examination to confirm these suspicions and to fully rule out any other factors.
But sources say officers do believe the couple died in a personal tragedy that had been planned out and acted upon in late 2024.
The couple, who were reportedly 'somewhat reclusive', are believed to have lain dead since then. In recent days, locals visited the home due to concerns about not having seen either the man or woman for some time, reports the Irish Mirror. They then discovered the bodies of the couple inside the house.
In a press release, Gardai stated they are "investigating all the circumstances following the discovery of two bodies today, Tuesday 4th February 2025 in Glenbeigh, Co. Kerry.
"The bodies of a man and a woman, both believed to be in their 50s, were discovered at a domestic residence earlier today," a Garda spokesperson said.
"The scene remains preserved at this time and an examination by the Garda Technical Bureau will take place today. The Coroner and the office of the State Pathologist have been notified."
"The two bodies currently remain at the scene, pending preliminary technical examination, and will be removed for a postmortem examination, which will take place in due course.
"Results of the post-mortem will determine the exact course of the Garda investigation. ".
