UCF forward Destiny Thomas scored 21 points and had 20 rebounds in the Knights’ 64-54 overtime home victory over Cincinnati (9-19, 2-13 AAC) on Saturday.
Guard Mya Burns scored 20 points for UCF (13-13, 4-10), marking the first game this season UCF had two 20-point scorers. Thomas earned her 12th double-double and also had 4 blocks. Burns added 6 rebounds and 2 steals.
UCF, which had led 35-19 at halftime. scored the first 10 points in overtime.
Cincinnati had battled back from 18 points down to force overtime.
“I’m proud of this win, especially on Senior Knight,” UCF coach Sytia Messer said. “It was a full team effort and our players fought until the end. Destiny has been the engine and I’m proud of her performance. Mya set the tone early in the game and she transitioned along with getting a big steal toward the end of the game to give us the momentum.”
To start the game, each team scored on its initial possession before UCF used 10-0 run over the next six minutes to open a 12-2 lead.
Junior forward/center Malea Williams turned in a career-high 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in a career-high 34 minutes for Cincinnati. Junior guard Jillian Hayes added 16 points on 7-of-14 from the field with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Knights, who shot 9-of-10 on free throws in overtime, will cap their regular season in Tulsa on Wednesday with tipoff slated for 7:30 p.m.
