Bicyclist dies after being hit by two vehicles, police searching for driver of car

The following is a news release from Idaho State Police.

CALDWELL — Idaho State Police is investigating a vehicle vs. bicycle collision which occurred on Tuesday at 7:03 p.m. on the westbound I84 mile marker 26 off-ramp, in Canyon County.

A bicyclist was traveling eastbound on US20-26. A gray passenger car turning westbound onto US20-26 from the I84 off-ramp struck the bicyclist, who was struck a second time by a 2013 Ram 2500 also turning westbound. The driver of the passenger car fled the scene.

The bicyclist, a 55-year-old-man from Caldwell, was critically injured and died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet. The driver of the Ram, a 43-year-old man from Caldwell, was not injured.

Traffic at the intersection of US20-26 and I84 was blocked for approximately three and a half hours, allowing emergency responders to assist those involved and clear the scene.

ISP troopers are asking the public for help. Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to contact ISP dispatch at (208) 846-7500.

This incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
