SWAN VALLEY – Owned and operated by the Berry family siblings, Berry’s Famous Square Ice Cream inside of the Rainey Creek Country Store/Berry’s Gas Station in Swan Valley has been a staple in the community for decades.
Josh, Jessica and Matt Berry took on running the gas station and ice cream shop together in 2021, and have continued the long tradition of surprisingly-shaped scoops of the good stuff.
For many who are stopping for gas on their way through Sun Valley, seeing an ice cream bar comes as a surprise.

Walking into the store, you are immediately met with a sizeable ice cream bar featuring tons of flavors. The most interesting part is how they serve the ice cream — it’s all in square scoops.
EastIdahoNews.com was lucky enough to try some of its most popular flavors.
The first flavor I tried was playdough, which was colorful with swirls of yellow, green and blue. You can taste hints of fruity flavors, and with a texture similar to sherbet, it was sweet like candy.

“It’s unique, you just gotta try it,” Josh Berry said. “It’s almost a little bit like sherbet, the kids love it.
Next, I tried the white-chocolate raspberry truffle, a crowd favorite. This flavor was creamy and delicious, with bits of raspberry to add a little tanginess to the cold ice cream.

“We try to figure out what people like, and sometimes we try to do unique stuff,” Josh Berry said. “White chocolate, and raspberry truffle, it’s three great flavors that mix together perfectly.”
Lastly, I tried Josh’s favorite, the caramel caribou. This one is a praline ice cream base, with caramel, and Carmelo candies mixed in.

“This is the one I always get,” he said.
Other fan favorites include the Yellowstone mudslide which includes peanuts, Oreos, and brownie bits, and the Maui Waui Sherbet, and the huckleberry cheesecake.
