Belfast City Centre student apartments evacuated following flat fire

A popular student high-rise apartment building in Belfast City Centre was evacuated today following a flat fire.

The emergency services were called to the incident at around 12.27pm on Sunday, February 2, following reports of a fire inside a flat at the Student Roost building on Great Patrick Street.

Six fire appliances were sent to the scene, including an aerial appliance, with firefighters wearing breathing equipment entering the building and extinguishing the fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

A Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We received a report of a fire at a flat at a property on Great Patrick Street at 12.27pm.

"Two appliances from Whitla Fire Station were sent to the scene, along with one from Westland, Knock and Springfield Fire Station. An aerial appliance from Springfield was also sent to the scene.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and extinguished the fire. They currently remain at the scene and the cause of the fire is not yet determined."
