Belfast city centre bakery closed as it issues statement after fire

A Belfast city centre bakery has said it will have to close temporarily as a result of a fire at its premises.

The emergency services were called to a blaze at Bakari on Donegall Street just after 2pm on St Patrick's Day with pictures showing large amounts of smoke billowing from the bakery.

A section of the road was closed for a couple of hours while firefighters dealt with the incident.

Following the fire, Bakari has taken to social media to tell its customers that it will not be open tomorrow and that they appriciate the kind messages they have received in the wake of the blaze.

It said: "Thank you everyone for your kind messages. As many of you know there was a fire at the shop today. We are still processing what has happened but plan to be back as soon as possible.

"We will be closed tomorrow but you can still purchase our bread from all our usual whole customers."

Neighbouring business, Belfast Exposed, said: "Sending our best to our neighbours at Bakari after their fire this afternoon. We hope your wonderful bakery will be back operating as normal soon so that our visitors can experience the wonderful service you provide and enjoy your delicious wares."
