Barry McGuigan on son Shane's 'bit of a fling' with 'great girl' Maura Higgins

4 months ago 273

Barry McGuigan has described Maura Higgins as "a great girl" and said he really enjoyed her company on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

The boxing great and Longford model were both contestants in the series. However, they knew each other before going into the jungle as Maura used to date McGuigan's son Shane. And McGuigan revealed how he had great time for the 34-year-old as he spoke about his time on the show, the Irish Mirror reports.

"Maura was lovely, a lovely girl, very pretty girl, great fun, but that Midlands accent when she uses bad language, I used to just cringe (and say) 'Oh Maura stop', McGuigan told Miriam O'Callaghan on RTE Radio 1.

"She'd say 'what are you talking about, sorry father' she used to say to Reverend Richard (Coles). That was just so funny. It was comical, but they were all (I'm A Celebrity contestants) lovely people and it was just a pleasure to be in there with them. They were great.

"Maura's a lovely lassie. Her and Shane had a bit of a fling for I think three or four weeks, but that's all it lasted so he's happily married now with two children. I think Maura's in a strong relationship, but she was just a great girl and really enjoyed her company.

"We made it a laugh. It was anything but a laugh when you were hungry and the thing about it was I was hungry all the time."
