Ballygawley assault latest as man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an assault with a metal grate in Co Tyrone.

It was reported that shortly before 7pm on Thursday evening, December 26, a man aged in his 50s was assaulted with a metal grate in the Main Street area of Ballygawley.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries, which police say are not believed to be life threatening at this time.

In an update into their investigation, police said a man aged 50 has now been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.

A spokesperson for the PSNI added: "Enquiries are ongoing and police continue to appeal to anyone with any information about this assault to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1024 of 26/12/24.
