Appeal for public to help give former homeless woman 'send off she deserves'

A Bangor funeral director is asking members of the public to attend the funeral of a former homeless woman, who is due to be buried on Monday.

Glen Baxter of North Down Funeral Directors is asking anyone who knew Anne Hillman or had worked with her over the years to come to her cremation at Roselawn Cemetery on December 23, in order to give her the send off that she deserves.

Anne passed away on November 29 at Hollygate Lodge Care Home, in Carryduff, where she had been living for the past seven months.

She had made headlines in 2018 after she was moved to Moat Park in Dundonald from Belfast City Centre ahead of Culture Night, with her continuing to live at the park in the months that followed.

Anne was known to be quite a reclusive woman with many of those who knew her never learning what her last name was.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Glen Baxter said that he hoped that those who knew Anne over the years would be able to come and attend her funeral on Monday.

He said: "Many people would know Anne as the woman who lived in Moat Park in Dundonald and she would often receive warm drinks and support from kind members of the public. Thankfully over the past few months she had been able to secure a place to stay at a care home and was no longer living on the streets.

"Anne was quite a reclusive woman and although many people knew her, they may never had learned her last name and I am hoping that those who worked with Anne or knew her from her time in Belfast or Moat Park are able to attend the service on Monday and give Anne the send off that she deserves."

Anne's funeral will take place on Monday, December 23, at 1:20pm in Roselawn Crematorium. For further details please contact North Down Funeral Directors on 02891 457711 or visit their website via this link.
