Amazing Glaze Donuts will make you crave its sweet treats and tasty drinks

IDAHO FALLS — More than 60 varieties of doughnuts daily, delicious cinnamon rolls, and tasty drinks are at a shop in Idaho Falls. It’s a place that will be sure to start a craving you never dreamed you would have.  

Amazing Glaze Donuts, at 2299 East 17th Street, is operated by husband-and-wife team Dean and Katie Giesbrecht.

When you walk inside the store, you will smell the sweet scent of doughnuts filling the air.

With the exception of the cake doughnuts, all of the doughnuts are made with real Idaho potatoes. 

“We go through about 600 pounds of potatoes a week, and they are all hand peeled and boiled and mashed and then from there, it gets secretive,” Dean said with a laugh. 

One popular item is the Bavarian cream-filled doughnut. It’s topped with house-made chocolate icing, and every bite is to die for. 

We tried a croissant doughnut called Steve.

“Instead of the traditional… what people would call a cronut…which is just a croissant that’s made to look like a doughnut, this one is our dough and it’s the original glazed doughnut, wrapped with a croissant and then it is glazed and fried together,” Katie said. 

She explained the story behind the name and where they let customers get involved. 

“We put it out on social media: ‘Please name this doughnut for us’ and we had several names that were awesome. We had people vote, and Steve was the winner!” Katie said. 

If you don’t quite feel like eating a doughnut, try out a cinnamon roll. 

“Our cinnamon roll is made out of our doughnut dough. It’s baked. It’s packed chock full of butter and other good things, and then we top it with a maple cream cheese frosting,” Dean said.

Amazing Glaze Donuts has had pumpkin chocolate chip cinnamon rolls before, too, which is around seasonally. 

“Our bakers like to do different varieties, different times of the year, so they have done raspberry rolls with a lemon butter cream icing,” Katie added. 

Don’t forget to order a drink like the Cookies and Cream Big Train. It’s a blended drink. It doesn’t have coffee in it, but several of the flavors do. 

Dean and Katie said one of the most popular drinks is the Glazed Over. It’s a latte made with caramel sauce and vanilla syrup. 

Amazing Glaze Donuts in Idaho Falls is open Tuesday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. There are also two other locations: one on Cedar Street in Pocatello, and the other on campus at Idaho State University.
