Alex Murdaugh Maintains His Innocence Before Murder Sentencing

Alex Murdaugh addressed the court Friday before he was sentenced for murdering his wife and son in June 2021, insisting that he would never hurt his family.

“I’m innocent. I would never hurt my wife, Maggie, and I would never hurt my son Paul Paul,” Murdaugh said in a prison jumpsuit on Friday before a packed Colleton County courthouse.

Murdaugh, 54, was convicted on Thursday of two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in connection with the June 7, 2021, murders of his wife, Maggie, and his son Paul. Throughout the six-week trial, prosecutors argued that Murdaugh fatally shot his wife and son with two different guns in a desperate attempt to evade questions about his financial crimes.
