Aer Lingus is once again opening the doors to its renowned Future Pilot Programme, presenting an exceptional chance for budding pilots to kick-start their flying careers with the airline. The fully-funded initiative welcomes individuals without any previous aviation background and aims to train and recruit 90 pilots over the next five years.
Following a rigorous selection process, chosen candidates will embark on a 14-month training course at an international pilot academy starting in September 2025, blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. Trainees will subsequently return to Aer Lingus' Training Academy in Dublin to finalise their training under the guidance and support of the Aer Lingus Liaison Pilot.
Upon completion, they will earn a multi-crew pilot's commercial licence, setting them on the path to becoming a first officer and eventually a captain on both short and long-haul flights.

According to the Aer Lingus website, pilots "can expect a competitive salary with many additional benefits," with Airbus Type Rated pilots earning around €77,000 (£64,435) and Non-Airbus Type Rated pilots receiving €63,500 (£53,156).
The site also notes that "the average Aer Lingus First Officer yearly pay in Ireland is approximately €58,905 (£49,309), which is 18% above the national average.", reports Cork Beo.
Aspiring pilots should be prepared for fierce competition, with the airline stipulating that applicants must be at least 18 years old by the time applications close, as well as having completed their Leaving Certificate - or an equivalent qualification - with a minimum of two higher-level subjects scored at H5 or above.
Additional requirements include fluency in English, along with the ability to pass rigorous medical and security checks. Captain Karl O'Neill, Chief Instructor at Aer Lingus, emphasised they are seeking individuals with exceptional communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills to join their ranks.
Delving into the specifics of the initiative, he elaborated: "Aer Lingus' Future Pilot Programme is a fully-funded pilot training course that offers successful applicants the opportunity to realise their dreams of a career in aviation. We're looking for candidates who possess excellent communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills. We particularly encourage women with these skillsets to consider applying. Previous successful candidates have come from a diverse range of careers and backgrounds and are now forging exciting new careers in the sky."
He added: "All successful candidates will receive the most advanced industry-leading training. In addition, they will receive constant mentoring, guidance and support throughout their training and careers. We look forward to welcoming our 2025 Future Pilot Programme candidates, who will play a vital role in shaping the future of our airline."
While no prior experience is necessary, Aer Lingus is on the hunt for driven, committed individuals who have a zeal for aviation and the Aer Lingus brand.
A spokesperson for the airline stated: "Whether you have just finished school/college or simply want to change career, this could be the right move for your future. Many of our pilots have joined us from other industries, and we urge you to consider doing the same."
"We are looking to attract talented people who are motivated, engaged and passionate about aviation and the iconic Aer Lingus brand. If you are technically minded, mature, responsible and committed to succeed then maybe a career in aviation is for you. To secure a place on this course, you need to be highly motivated and must demonstrate the competencies required to become a commercial airline pilot.
"You will need to possess excellent communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills, as well as an appreciation of the service our customers expect. We are searching for candidates who are willing to balance a fast paced, technically challenging and dynamic environment, with safety and exceptional customer service."
