Acting President Choi Sang-mok reiterated his calls Monday for the ruling and opposition parties to narrow their differences and come up with a special counsel bill to investigate impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol's failed martial law bid.

Choi made the remark during his separate meetings with Kwon Young-se, the ruling People Power Party (PPP)'s interim leader, and the main opposition Democratic Party of Korea's leader Lee Jae-myung, at the National Assembly, urging them to draft a new bill without any "unconstitutional elements."

Opposition parties have been seeking to pass a revised special counsel bill that includes allegations Yoon committed "treason" by attempting to incite war and proposes the Supreme Court's chief justice recommend a special counsel to look into Yoon's insurrection charges despite opposition from the PPP.

Choi also urged the parties' support to activate a consultative body involving the rival parties and the government in areas, such as public welfare, the economy and trade, to fast-track bills concerning people's livelihoods. (Yonhap)
