21-year-old charged with rape after victim’s parents ask police to check on her

TETON — A 21-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday after a young girl’s parents became worried about her behavior and contacted police.

Brayan Sanchez Casiano is charged with felony rape.

Court documents say on Dec. 9, a Teton County Sheriff’s deputy met with two people at the Teton County Sheriff’s Office.

The people reported that their 13-year-old daughter had been “staying out super late with friends and not telling her parents where she was going.”

They reportedly told the deputy they were “worried she was doing things she shouldn’t be doing, possibly drinking alcohol or doing drugs.” The parents asked the deputy to come to their house to talk to their daughter to see what was going on.

When they arrived, the 13-year-old told the deputy about friends she had been hanging out with “and assured (the deputy) they were not doing anything illegal.”

The girl allowed deputies to go through her phone, where they reportedly found evidence that she was planning to meet a person named “Brayan” later in the day. She told deputies she didn’t know his last name, and believed he was 17-years-old, based on what a friend told her.

Around 12:45 p.m., a man identified as Sanchez Casiano arrived at the 13-year-old’s home.

When deputies went to talk to him, they learned he was 21-years-old. Sanchez Casiano reportedly admitted that he had sex with the 13-year-old two days before.

Sanchez Casiano was then taken into custody and interviewed at the Teton County Sheriff’s Office. During the interview, he said the two had sex at his home on the night of Dec. 7.

He allegedly admitted that he thought the girl was 14-years-old and he “knew he had made a mistake.”

Sanchez Casiano was booked into the Bonneville County Jail on a $75,000 bond. A no-contact order was issued for the victim. Sanchez Casiano is expected to appear for a jury trial on March 20.

If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.

Though Sanchez Casiano has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean he committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
